Shriners’ golf tournament

Today is the deadline to register for the 26th annual Hinesville/Fort Stewart Shriners’ Golf Tournament, scheduled for Sept. 10 at Cherokee Rose Golf Club in Hinesville.
The fee is $50 per person and includes cart, green fees and food.
The first 100 applicants will play. Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin, straightest drive, longest drive and hole-in-one. Men and women are welcome. The format is 18-hole, four-person scramble. For more information, call Jim Williams at 912-977-8455 or Albert Nelson at 912-876-2391.

Tourney to benefit Brandon Hellgren

A golf tournament to raise funds for Brandon Hellgren, a 7-year-old who has been diagnosed with leukemia, will be Oct. 8 at Cherokee Rose Country Club.
The John E. Smiley Jr. “Jay Bird” Memorial Golf Tournament has established Team Brandon to help support Hellgren, the son of Bradwell Institute baseball coach Rhett Hellgren.
All proceeds will go to help cover costs associated with Brandon’s care. Entry costs are $50 per player or $200 per team. Hole sponsors also are sought.
