Lady Panther’s
Diamond Club
The Lady Panther’s Diamond Club, Liberty County High School girls fast pitch softball boosters, is hosting the second annual Summer Slammer Fishing Tournament, Saturday, July 12, at Sunbury Shrimp Docks. The fee is $75 per boat (three people per boat maximum). Prizes in the trout category are $1,000 for first place, $300 for second and $100 for third. There is also a bass and flounder Calcutta. A captains meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on July 11 at Shrimp Docks. For more information, call Phillip McCallar at 271-1448 or 884-7626.

Fast pitch
softball lessons
Fast pitch softball pitching lessons for girls ages 9-14 are available at the Liberty County Recreation Department. Lessons may be scheduled after noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, for one hour.  The cost is $25 per lesson. Call 876-5359 to schedule a lesson.

Panther
football conditioning
The LCHS Panther football conditioning training currently is under way. Weight training and conditioning will be Monday-Thursday from 6-8:30 p.m. All Panther football players are encouraged to attend. For more information call coach Kirk Warner at 271-5936.

summer programs

Summer sports programs at the Liberty County YMCA include:
• Blast Ball for ages 3-6 registration is May 8-June 8, season begins June 21.
• Field Hockey for ages 6-14 registration is May 8-June 8, season begins June 21.
• Biggest Loser Fit Challenge 2 registration is open until June 2, competition starts June 9.
• Football Camp, June 2-6, ages 10-14, 8:30-10:30 a.m. register by May 28.
• Sports Camp, June 9-July 3, 9-11 a.m., register by June 2

LCRD/Chevy youth baseball clinics
The Liberty County Recreation Department and NeSmith Chevrolet have teamed up to provide an opportunity for local youth to attend a free youth baseball clinic.  The clinic will be conducted by instructors from Ripken Baseball in Port Wentworth on June 12, 13 or 14, from 9 a.m.-noon.  A limited number of slots are available.  For complete details, visit the LCRD web site at www.lcrd.net, or call 876-5359.

Twilight Special
at golf course
The Cherokee Rose Golf Course offers a twilight special. Every Monday-Thursday after 3 p.m. You can play 18 holes for $19 plus tax. The fee includes a cart. For more information, call the course office at 876-5503.

Aquatic fitness
Aquatic fitness classes will be offered each Wednesday and Saturday, starting May 28, in the LCRD Pool. Wednesday class is from 7:15-8 p.m. and the Saturday class is from 9:15-10 a.m.  The cost is $2 per class, pay at the pool prior to each class.

Open Swim
The Liberty County Recreation Department swimming pool begins summer operation on Saturday.  The Pool is in Liberty Independent Troop Park on Highway 84 in Hinesville. Hours are 2-6 p.m. every day.  Daily admission is $2 per person.  The pool may be reserved for private parties.  

Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons for ages 4 and up will be offered at the LCRD Pool in two-week sessions (Tuesday-Friday) as follows:  Mornings; June 3-13, June 17-27, July 8-18, and July 22-Aug. 1, at 9, 10 or 11 a.m. Evenings; June 3-13 and June 17-27 at 6:10.  The cost is $25 per participant per session. A limited number of slots are available. On-line registration is available at  www.lcrd.net.

Special nights
The LCRD Pool has special nights; Starting June 29,  Sunday night is Family Night with only parents and children admitted from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Starting immediately  Monday night is Senior Swim for ages 50 and older, from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday night is Pre-Teen Swim for ages 9-12 only from 7;30-9:30 p.m. Admission is $2 per person for each event.

Registration is under way for Liberty County Recreation Department 2008 Summer Programs, including day camp, swim lessons, swim team, sports camps, tae kwon do, golf, tennis, track and field, and weight training. Registration will be accepted at the LCRD Office in Shuman Recreation Center at James Brown Park Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.  Registration will continue until all slots are filled on a first served basis. Summer One
Day Mega Slam

This year’s Summer One Day Mega Slam will be a special one-day, all-day event on Sunday July 6. The gates at Salter field open at 1 p.m. and with a $5 admission you will be treated to a 3 p.m. car, motorcycle and truck show. Prizes will be awarded for best of rims and best of show. At 4 p.m. Selena Hair Studio will present the biggest hair show and a live concert starts at 5 p.m. WOAH 106.3 DJ, L’ Boogie, will be spinning the tunes all day.  Vendor spaces are still available and musicians are encouraged to sign up to perform. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering a course on Boating Skills and Seamanship. The class will cover boat handling, tides and currents, basic navigation, required equipment, and other topics important to boating safety. The classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays for eight nights beginning July 15. The classes will meet at the Department of Human Resources, 761 Wheaton Street in Savannah from 7-9 p.m. There is a $30 fee for course materials. Lady Tigers fast pitch softball
The Lady Tigers fast pitch softball team is holding voluntary conditioning every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:45- 7 p.m., now through the month of July.
