LCRD summer
program registration
Registration is under way for Liberty County Recreation Department 2008 Summer Programs, including day camp, swim lessons, swim team, sports camps, tae kwon do, golf, tennis, track and field, and weight training. Registration will be accepted at the LCRD Office in Shuman Recreation Center at James Brown Park Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.  Registration will continue until all slots are filled on a first served basis. Summer One
Day Mega Slam
This years Summer Slam will be a special one-day, all-day event featuring a car, motorcycle and truck show, good food and a live concert. The event is scheduled to start around 10 a.m. on July 6 on Salter’s Field. Detail are being finalized. For more information call, Ernie Walthour at 980-4559.

Summer sports programs at the Liberty County YMCA include:
• Blast Ball for ages 3-6 registration is May 8-June 8, season begins June 21.
• Field Hockey for ages 6-14 registration is May 8-June 8, season begins June 21.
• Biggest Loser Fit Challenge 2 registration is open until June 2, competition starts June 9.
• Football Camp, June 2-6, ages 10-14, 8:30-10:30 a.m. register by May 28.
• Sports Camp, June 9-July 3, 9-11 a.m., register by June 2

Ladyballers
Summer Classic
The Ladyballers Summer Classic is accepting registration now until June 20 from girl teams 11-16U. The roundup tournament is scheduled for June 27-29 in Augusta. Entry fees are $265 for one team or $250 for multiple team discounts. Games will follow AAU rules. Teams rosters must be complete and include AAU member number for each participant. LCRD/Chevy Youth Baseball Clinics
The Liberty County Recreation Department and NeSmith Chevrolet have teamed up to provide an opportunity for local youth to attend a free youth baseball clinic.  The clinic will be conducted by instructors from Ripken Baseball in Port Wentworth on June 12, 13 or 14, from 9 a.m.-noon.  A limited number of slots are available.  For complete details, visit the LCRD web site at www.lcrd.net, or call 876-5359.

Baseball Camp
Is accepting applications for its summer session in Richmond Hill. The camp runs from 9 a.m.  to 3 p.m. from  June 30-July 3 and is for boys ages 7-14. The fee is $100 but team rates are available. AAU Classic
The AAU Classic, sponsored by the Coastal Crew Rebels 17U squad, is taking registrations for a 13U and 14U tournament being held Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7. Entry deadline is May 28. The entry fee is $150 per team. The tournament will be held at the Bradwell Institute gym and at St. James Sports Center. Rosters must be turned in to the host/tournament director prior to your first game. It’s a double elimination tournament with two 20-minute halves and 3 timeouts per half. Twilight Special
at golf course
The Cherokee Rose Golf Course offers a twilight special. Every Monday-Thursday after 3 p.m. you can play 18 holes at for $19 plus tax. The fee includes cart. For more information, call the course office at 876-5503.

Line Drive
Baseball opening day
Line Drive baseball kicks off its traveling season June 1 at Armstrong Atlantic University with an all-day celebration for the kids. Children can run the bases and there will be an inter-squad game at 2 p.m. followed by a double-header against Chain Black at 5 p.m. Come watch 14 of the top 1,000 players in the country play ball. Open Swim
The Liberty County Recreation Department swimming pool begins summer operation on Saturday.  The Pool is in Liberty Independent Troop Park on Highway 84 in Hinesville. Hours are 2-6 p.m. every day.  Daily admission is $2 per person.  The pool may be reserved for private parties. 

Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons for ages 4 & up will be offered at the LCRD Pool in two-week sessions (Tuesday-Friday) as follows:  Mornings; June 3-13, June 17-27, July 8-18, and July 22-Aug. 1, at 9, 10 or 11 a.m. Evenings; June 3-13 and June 17-27 at 6:10.  The cost is $25 per participant per session. A limited number of slots are available. On-line registration is available at  www.lcrd.net.

Aquatic fitness
Aquatic fitness classes will be offered each Wednesday and Saturday, starting May 28, in the LCRD Pool. Wednesday class is from 7:15-8 p.m. and the Saturday class is from 9:15-10 a.m.  The cost is $2 per class, pay at the pool prior to each class.

Special nights
The LCRD Pool has special nights; Sunday night is Family Night with only parents and children admitted from 6:30-8:30.  Monday night is Senior Swim for ages 50 and odler, from 6:30-8. Thursday night is Pre-Teen Swim for ages 9-12 only.  Admission is $2 per person for each of these special times.

Heritage Golf
The Richmond Hill Historical Society and Arts on the Coast are hosting the first Heritage Golf Tournament at the Sterling Links Golf Club on June 14. The four-man scramble entry fee is $300 per team. Mulligan packages are also available for $25 and include 1 mulligan, 1 three-foot string and 1 throw. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the shotgun start is scheduled for 10 a.m.
