St. James ‘Kool
Kids For Christ’

The St. James Kool Kids for Christ after-school program for 2008-09 is currently under way. Registrations are being accepted for children from kindergarten through the eighth grade. The program offers homework assistance, computer labs, learning enrichment programs and sports programs. 23rd Shrine Club Golf Tournament


The Hinesville/Fort Stewart Shrine Club is taking registrations through today for its golf tournament Sept. 13 at Cherokee Rose. Fee is $50 per person, 4-person scramble (team handicap-60 minimum). Only the first 100 applicants will play. Check in time is 8 a.m. on Sept. 13 with the shotgun start at 9 a.m. Entry forms are available at the club and Pro shops in the area. Clam Jam 2008
The Altamaha Riverkeeper’s, a non-profit organization protecting and conserving the Altamaha River is planning a Clam Jam fundraiser from 4-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Pelican Point Restaurant's River View room in Belleville.
The Clam Jam will offer the bounty of the Georgia Coast with local morsels from the sea including clams, shrimp and a taste testing of oysters. Artwork, catered dinners, and coastal adventures such as guided river paddles, fishing trips, and overnight stays at coastal inns will highlight an auction. The event overlooking the Sapelo River will continue with dancing to music by Jonny Hibbert and Friends.
The Altamaha Riverkeeper is seeking donation items for the auction and there are opportunities for Clam Jam sponsorships. Costs for the event are: $75 per person, $100 per couple, $30 for guests 30 years or under or guests with a commercial fishing license. For more information: call 912-437-8164.

NFL Pepsi Punt,
Pass and Kick

Fort Stewart is hosting the annual local NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Saturday, Sept. 20, beginning at 10 a.m. on the Youth Football Field on Greene Street. The competition is free and open to all boys and girls ages 8-15 (age as of Dec. 31, this year). Boys will compete with boys and girls will compete with girls. Winners in each age division will return on Oct. 25 to compete in the sectional. Visit Jordan Youth Gym, Bldg. 608 on West 6th Street to fill out and submit the entry form. Coast Guard
Auxiliary

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a boating course for The Weekend Navigator beginning Sept. 16. The classes will meet at the Department of Human Resources, 761 Wheaton St. in Savannah for seven Tuesday nights, followed by an optional, no-cost, seven weeks of advanced material. YMCA Biggest Loser Challenge
Get ready to drop some pounds starting Sept. 29. Three six-member teams will face off to see who is the biggest loser. You'll face intense workouts, physical challenges, all to become the biggest loser. The program runs from Sept. 29 – Nov. 25 and registrations are underway until Sept. 25. The workout will be on Monday and Wednesday followed by a challenge each Thursday. Time slots available are 5:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., and 6:30 p.m. Every participant must be available for the Thursday night challenge at 6. 18 slots available for the session. The price is $100 YMCA members, $120 non-members. All participants must pass a health history pre screen. Eligibility for the biggest loser will be determined by body fat percentage.
