Southern Soccer Academy of Coastal Georgia, a nonprofit organization formerly known as the Coastal Georgia Soccer Association, announced its recent merger with the Southern Soccer Academy to form the new Southern branch of the statewide youth soccer organization.
The organization also has formed a partnership as the American Developmental Academy for the Chelsea Football Club, a top English Premier League club and reigning European champion.
Under the new partnership, Chelsea Academy coaches will spend off-season time conducting player training camps and skill sessions in Georgia, in addition to advancing international play opportunities to select players. SSA coaches also will receive supplementary coaching education from the European coaches and teams will see a new uniform, a replica the Chelsea uniforms, beginning in the spring 2013 season.
“Our goal is to allow every player in our club to aspire to play at any level they want to play,” said Gary Wright, club executive director of Southern Soccer Academy of Coastal Georgia. “The barriers that once hindered our players’ ability to compete at a higher level have been removed. Going forward, players will enjoy increased exposure and greater opportunities to play across all skill levels, with an eye towards collegiate and professional levels as well.”
The Southern Soccer Academy includes approximately 7,000 players across the state.
