KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Chipper Jones played third base for the first time since injuring his knee last August, and the longtime All-Star was flawless in the field Thursday as the Atlanta Braves beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3.

Jones tore his left knee last August while making a play. He began this spring as a designated hitter, but returned to his familiar spot against the Tigers.

Jones also singled and scored a run before leaving early, as regulars usually do in spring training.

Max Scherzer pitched three sharp innings for Detroit. The Braves won on Matt Young's two-out single in the ninth.
