The BCS as we know it is going away

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Bowl Championship Series officials will meet Tuesday to exchange ideas about possible changes to the format of major college football's postseason system.

BCS executive director Bill Hancock says "everything imaginable will be discussed." While it seems certain that major changes are coming, a full-scale playoff to determine a champion isn't one of them.

Hancock said Monday morning at a meeting of the Football Writers Association of America that protecting the importance of the regular season was vital.

Hancock says that "the larger the playoff field the more damage to the regular season."

One of the formats that will be given serious consideration is a four-team playoff called a plus-one.

No. 1 LSU plays No. 2 Alabama in the BCS championship at the Superdome later Monday.
