Heavy rainfall leads to sewer release from Fort Stewart treatment plant

The City of Hinesville Public Works / ESG Operations, Inc. reported a wastewater sewer release at the Fort Stewart Water Pollution Control Plant, located at 629 Hero Road, at approximately 7 a.m. Thursday.

Plant operators responded to the sewer release and all operational equipment was in service. It was determined that due to an excess of 3 inches of rainfall, the flow was too great and a release of sewer occurred.

The total amount released was estimated at 3,150 gallons and due to the amount of rainfall, the released sewer may have reached state waters.
