Authorities are investigating the cause of a blaze that claimed the life of a Long County man Monday morning.
At 5:53 a.m., a call came into the 911 center of a home on fire on the 600 block of Thickette Road.
According to Long County Fire and Rescue Chief Chris Moss, the homeowner had called 911 and told the dispatcher his porch was on fire and he was going into the residence to retrieve his pet dog or dogs.
Moss said the home was fully engulfed in flames when units arrived.
Once the fire was knocked down they discovered the body of the homeowner.
The Long County Sheriff’s Office and the state fire marshal’s office are investigating.
