Ty Randolph recalled meeting Jamal Jackson as a freshman and the veteran coach had something he never had – someone who could dunk.

But Jackson never dunked in a game, Randolph recalled. His other attributes did come to the forefront.

“He didn’t have a fear factor and that was really, really special for what we had going on,” Randolph said. “This young man has been the difference maker.”

Jackson and his teammates over Randolph’s first four years have led to 58 wins, a Sweet 16 appearance and Bradwell’s first region title in 30 years.

“We want to thank Jamal for what he’s done,” Randolph said. “There are no words to express what they’ve done in a short time. Really good players make great coaches and this group has definitely made me look like a good coach.”

Also signing Tuesday was football player Eric Concepcion, who signed a letter of intent with Brevard (N.C.) College. Concepcion caught 13 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns in his senior season.

“This is a rare opportunity,” Tigers football coach Deshon Brock said. “Only 10-15% get to play at the next level. This is an extreme honor.”

Concepcion has been raised by his brother and sister-in-law, Desmond and Victoria Tucker. His brother, a soldier in the 3rd Infantry Division, was in the field training for the signing.

“We are so thankful for this community that has raised Eric,” Victoria Tucker said. “We are so thankful for the community that has embraced him and helped him get where he is now. We are forever grateful to you.”

“It’s been rough,” Concepcion said, “but with y’all’s support, it’s been good.”
