Blue Tide softball off to 2-1 start

The Long County Blue Tide softball team is off to a 2-1 start after its 13-1 win over Bradwell Institute on Saturday.

The Blue Tide opened the season Friday with a 7-6 win over Brunswick before falling Saturday morning 4-3 to Islands.

Long County will host Islands on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and will host Tattnall County on Monday at 5:30 p.m. The homestand concludes next Tuesday against Brunswick at 5:30 p.m.

Bradwell Institute picked up its first win of the season Saturday with a 12-0 win over Claxton. Lexie Carson doubled and drove in three runs, while Leah Denmark was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Denmark also struck out five in the circle.

The Lady Tigers fell 13-5 in their season opener to Brunswick as the Lady Pirates broke open a one-run game with seven runs in the fifth inning. Jacoria Leonard was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Denmark was 2-for-2 with a double and Kyrstin Bernard was 2-for-3 with a double.

Wheeler County topped Bradwell 7-1 on Saturday morning before Long County posted its big win, scoring nine runs in the third inning.

Bradwell visits McIntosh County Academy today at 6:30 p.m. and hosts Calvary Day on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Liberty County will host MCA on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Area football teams ready to scrimmage

Bradwell Institute will host Windsor Forest on Friday night for a preseason scrimmage. Kickoff will be 7:30 p.m. at Olvey Field.

Liberty County will travel to Savannah for a preseason scrimmage on Friday night against Jenkins, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Long County, which hosted McIntosh County Academy and Warren County in a jamboree last week, will travel to MCA for a jamboree with the host Buccaneers and the Brunswick Pirates. The Blue Tide will face Brunswick for a quarter of varsity play and then take on MCA for a quarter. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at McIntosh County Middle School.

The regular season begins Aug. 19 for Bradwell, Liberty and Long. Bradwell will host Wayne County, Liberty travels to Brooklet to face Southeast Bulloch, and Long County visits Lyons to meet Toombs County.
