SAVANNAH -- The Long County Blue Tide track teams won the 2nd Annual Friday Night Lights track meet on April 12 at Savannah High School, beating out several Savannah-area and other Low Country schools.

The girls amassed 150 points, while Bluffton (S.C.) was second among the 12 girls teams with 99 points. The Long County boys racked up 149.5 points to edge out New Hampstead and the Phoenix’s 126 points.

The teams were helped out by several high-placing individuals in their events. The boys team had four first-place finishes while the girls team had five first-place finishes on the night.

For the boys, Jesse Magly won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.56 seconds, Wyatt Huston won the 400-meter race with a time of 53.26 seconds, Shawn Young won the 1,600 meter race with a time of 4:55.00, and the 4x800 meter relay team won with a time of 9:04.18.

Magly also placed second in the 200 meter, Huston fifth in the 100, and Young was second in the 3,200 meter.

For other finishes: Demonte Clark finished fourth in the 400 meter, Trevor Kuchar placed fourth in the 800 and second in the 1,600, Andre Mills placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles, Elijah Williams placed third in the 300 hurdles, Jason Familia tied for third in the high jump and placed fourth in the long jump and Cortney Charles placed second and Jerome Brown placed third in the discus throw.

Both the 4x100 meter and 4x200 meter relay teams placed second while the 4x400 meter relay team placed third.

For the girls, Amire Saunders won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.41 seconds and the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 2 inches. France Smith won the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles with times of 16.21 and 49.12 and the high jump with a height of 5-2.

For other finishes: Aluana Brown placed fourth in the 200, Tamiya Copeland placed fifth in the 400, Kaley Hunter and Kaylee Kennard placed sixth and seventh in the 800, Macey Higgason placed third in both the 1,600 meter and 3,200, while Isabella Lucas placed fourth in the 1,600 and Braelyn Knowles placed fifth in the 3,200.

Dev Ambrose placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the 300 meter hurdles. Kyndall Johnson placed second in the high jump and Sala Tiapula placed fifth in the shotput.

The 4x100 meter relay and 4x800 meter relay teams placed second while the 4x200 meter relay team placed third and the 4x400 meter relay team placed fourth.

The track teams are close to wrapping up their season as they will compete in the region meet next Thursday and Friday.
