The second annual Terry Gordon Christmas Dinner was on Dec. 12 in Ludowici, and this year 250 dinners were given out. The meal began at around 11:30 AM, and took place at the Long County High School cafeteria.
Tara Allen, daughter of the late Gordon said that the meal was provided to anyone in need or who just wanted to have fellowship during the holidays.
“We started this last year, and it is to provide a meal to anyone who is hungry, but also to provide a place where anyone who wants to come out, and be with some other people at Christmas, can come out and enjoy a meal together,” Allen said.
Pamela Herrington had great things to say about the meal.
“Its just a blessing, at this time of the year,” she said. “It can be hard on some people, some are lonely and others are hungry. These volunteers coming out and doing this is fabulous.”
Gordon’s wife, Colette Gordon, said the meal was served at the school, but was also available for take out.
“We also have been delivering meals to people who weren’t able to come out themselves,” she said.
Allen added that the Long County Sheriff’s Department was helping deliver meals and that meals were provided to the Long County EMS Unit and the Ludowici Police Department.
Organizer Amy Duke, who was one of the othe, the preparation for the day began back in October, and it could not have taken place without the help of many.
Businesses and other sponsors included Ludowici Drugs, Coastal Fork-Lift, Ludowici Church of God, Coastal Auto-Parts, Phillips Seafood, Ludowici Meats, Western Sizzlin’, Long County Concerted Services, and the LC Board of Education. Individual sponsors were Darrell Ballance, Mary Peacock and Marie and Larry Middleton.
“When I hear about the hardships of some people it makes me want to cry, Daddy helped start this last year, and we are going to continue doing it; this is what Christmas is all about”, said Allen.
