Members of the Dor-chester Improvement Associated greeted visitors from the Coastal Heritage Society, Georgia Historical Society, LeConte-Woodmanston Foundation, the city of Savannah Archives and others interested in the area’s history on Dec. 9.
The history professionals came to learn about the academy and its place in the state’s history.
The agenda included a welcome by association president Bill Austin, a meal, a slide show narrated by Debra Robinson and a tour of the academy, led by Sally Richardson and James Baker, DIA board members.
The academy, which was originally built after the Civil War to educate newly freed slaves, is open for private or group tours upon request. Call 368-3471.
