Boy Scout Troop 500 had its 54th anniversary reunion Oct. 24 at the Boy Scout Hut in Hinesville.

Scoutmaster Danny Peller invited all former Troop 500 scouts and their families and asked them to bring pictures, stories and memories to share.

Peller said the gathering was the first of what he hopes becomes an annual event. It was an opportunity for younger scouts to learn about the history of Troop 500. Peller said the reunion gives former scouts an opportunity to see the changes made in Scouting, such as sleeping equipment.

“When many of the older guys were scouts, they slept in canvas tents with no floor, where now the new generation of scouts have nylon tents with a floor,” Peller said. “The former scouts get see the changes over the years.”

During the reunion, many of the former Scouts had the opportunity to thumb through photo books of past Scouting adventures and reminisce.
