Country singer Brantley Gilbert put on a show Friday for an enthusiastic Long County crowd.
“He was great. I love his music. He’s is so fine,” Brooke Stapleton said.
Gilbert, who recently made a name for himself in Nashville, appeared at the Clubhouse at Rye Patch and sang songs from his newest CD, “Modern Day Prodigal Son.”
Gilbert’s popularity began to soar earlier this year when he teamed up with Chappell Publishing, and his original song “The Best of Me” was released by Jason Aledean.
Gilbert’s style is a blend of new Southern rock, country and a bit of soul.
“It is what it is, but most folks are calling it new Southern rock,” Gilbert said.
Regarding his current tour, he said, “Man, it’s been going really well. We’ve been staying busy and just enjoying being with the people.”
Gilbert’s band members are John Merlino on lead guitar, Jonathan Waggoner on bass, Jess Franklin on rhythm and Ben Simms on drums.
Franklin did double-duty, serving as the opening act and later taking his place in Brantley’s band. Rachel Farley, 14, also sang a few number to open the show.
