David and Charlene (Collins) Schmidt celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday. They were married on April 27, 1963, in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Jacksonville.
Both are retired now. She worked for 26 years as a specialist at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville. He worked civil service with the city of Jacksonville, supervising the fuel section at the motor pool.
He is a Navy veteran, and served during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He holds a Bachelor of Science in business.
They live in both Jacksonville and Midway.
Charlene Schmidt also estimates that she has knitted thousands of shawls and caps for cancer patients. His service includes being a 28-gallon blood donor.
They are the parents of two sons, David Jr. (Brandie) and Eric (Gina). They also have three grandchildren, Evie, Brooke and Bryce.
Their children planned to host a party for their parents today in Jacksonville.
