Wayne and Ann Stewart were married Aug. 17, 1955, in the home of Ann’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Copeland of Valdosta. Ann’s uncle, John Pravatt, performed the wedding.

Wayne was living at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Osgood Stewart of Ludowici.

Wayne was drafted in the Army upon return from their honeymoon. After discharge, they returned to Long County and continued farming with his parents. Wayne then joined the National Guard and later was employed with the Guard, and they moved to Hinesville. He retired after working there for more than 26 years. He was employed with the Independent Life Insurance company for 10 years. Ann worked in food service, including as supervisor of food service at Liberty County Hospital for 28 years before retiring.

They are chartered members of the Church of Christ in Hinesville. They were dedicated workers, and Wayne served as an elder for more than 32 years.

Wayne and Ann were set to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday. Their children, Craig and Lynn (Bush) with their families, were to host the event.
