Oct. 7 was a Day of Thanks and Service for members of The Church of Latter Day Saints.
Member Lewis Nimmons said the storms that hit last month did relatively little damage.
"That’s reason enough to give thanks, but the ability to help others is also a profound reason to give thanks," he said.
So the Day of Service, was set aside to help in surrounding communities that were not so fortunate.
"Whatever we could do to assist, however we could lend a hand, helping our fellow man was the day’s goal," he said.
Nimmons said church members hope to make the effort a quarterly event.
