Day care, pre-school slots available
Weekly FMWR briefing for Aug. 6-12

Registration is underway for children selected through a lottery to attend a state-funded pre-K program at one of the two Fort Stewart Child Development Centers.

If you were notified in April of your child's selection, but have not completed the paperwork, callae CDC at 767-1038 to inquire.

Orientation and open houses began this week and are to run through Aug. 15 Pre-K classes start on Aug. 20, in conjunction with the DODEA calendar.

Childcare spaces available

Childcare service is available on Fort Stewart and Hunter.

As of Aug. 6, available childcare spaces at Fort Stewart are five infant, 55 pre-toddlers, 33 toddlers, and 55 pre-school.

Summer camps are ending and school-age spaces now are for before- and after-school care. There are 73 spaces for before-school and 23 for after-school care.

On Hunter, available are five infant, 39 pre-toddlers, 17 toddlers, and 54 pre-school. Also, for school-age there are 70 before-school spaces and 90 after-school spaces.

Back-to-School Blast

Celebrate the first week of school with laser tag and roller skating for the kids from 3-9 p.m. on Aug. 10 at Corkan Family Fun Center. The $10 per person combo includes two games of laser tag, roller skating and one 16-ounce soda. For information, call 767-4273.

 

Beatrix Potter storytime

Children up to the age of 12 will hear Beatrix Potter stories, enjoy activities and make related craft from 4-5 p.m. Aug. 15 at George P. Hays Library. There’s no charge. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For information, call 767-2828. 

 

Hunter GC Golf Scramble

The Hunter Garrison Commander's 4-person Golf Scramble will begin at 8 a.m. Aug. 17 at Hunter Golf Club. There's room for 25 four-person teams.

Register by Aug. 16. The cost is $35 for Taylors Creek and Hunter Golf Club members, active duty, retirees and Army civilians. It is $45 for guests. For information, call 315-9115.

 

Company flag football

Registration is under way for Company Level Flag Football League, scheduled Aug. 27-Nov. 15 at Bennett Sports Complex.

There’s no charge. Companies interested need to submit a memo to the Sports Office in the complex or call 767-8238. Registration closes Aug. 15.

 

Jaguars tickets

Tickets for 2012 home games of the Jacksonville Jaguars are on sale at Leisure Travel Services offices.

Opponents are Giants on Aug. 10, Falcons on Aug. 30, Texans on Sept. 16, Bengals on Sept. 30, Bears on Oct. 7, Lions on Nov. 4, Colts on Nov. 8, Titans on Nov. 25, Jets on Dec. 9 and Patriots on Dec. 23.

Golf scramble at Taylors Creek   

The Garrison Commander’s 4-Person Golf Scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course will begin at 1 p.m. Aug. 24. 

The cost is $25 for active duty, military retirees, Army civilians and club members and civilian guests. Registration deadline is Aug. 22 or when the first 25 four-person teams have signed up.

The Rock lifting

Newman Fitness Center will host The Rock Powerlifting and Bench Press Competition for men and women Aug. 25. Weigh-in begins at 8 a.m. and the competition at 10 a.m.

Contestants will be placed into one of 12 weight classes, and must complete a successful attempt in all three lifts (bench press, squat and dead lift) to qualify for an award. Each competitor will get three lifts per event.

Awards will be presented using the Schwartz-Malone power lifting formula.

Fort Stewart’s paintball range is closed Sundays and open a half day Saturdays because of the heat.

The range, in the Holbrook Pond Area, opens at 8 a.m. on Saturdays.

Sportsmen with hunting and fishing permits for Fort Stewart or Hunter may renew them online through WebTrac at https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/stewarthunttrac.html.

The service is available for renewals only. Call Pass and Permit offices at 435-8061 on Stewart and 315-5163 on Hunter.

Use your pass number to log in, rather than the nine-digit number previously used.
