Commit to follow Jesus

We have just celebrated one of the most sacred times on the Christian calendar — the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.
As we think on who Jesus is and why he came it can lead us to the question, how does that affect us? Does it require a response at all from us?
I’m afraid most people respond by acknowledging his historical existence and that he was a good teacher. Others might even acknowledge that he died a martyr’s death. Still others might believe that he died for the sins of the world and all that is required is to accept that forgiveness.
The Bible teaches that there is a commitment involved. Jesus forgives and, yes, faith in him is required. But Jesus never asked people just to believe in him — he asked them to follow him. He even went to the extreme by saying, “Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”
So the big question is, have you made the commitment to be a Christ follower? Are you living a life in the footsteps of Jesus? If not, the good news is you can. Make 2014 a year to remember — the year that you decided to follow Jesus.
