Farmer's love of a pig

There was a farmer who had a pig. He loved this pig and decided to give the pig a better life.
He went down to the pig’s mud hole, picked it up, took it home and cleaned it and let the pig go free. The pig went right back to his mud hole and began to wallow in the mud.
The farmer, not willing to give up on the pig, again went to get the pig. This time, when he cleaned it up, he talked to the pig about his love for him and his desire to give it a home right there with him. For a while, the pig was content to follow the farmer, but it still found his way outside and went right back to his mud hole.
This time, the farmer sent his son to get the pig and any pig that would follow him. His son went to the mud hole and called all the pigs. Some came, some didn’t. The son picked up the farmer’s pig and those that followed, went home and cleaned them up and let them go free. Pig after pig was cleaned and cared for. Some pigs stayed in the farmer’s house, while some went right back to the mud hole.
The farmer, although sad because the pigs went back to the mud hole, let them stay there.
A man said, “The farmer should know that a pig is just doing what a pig does.”
Another man said, “He should have built a cage to keep the pig from going to the mud hole.”
The farmer said, “As long as I held the pig in my hand, I was able to keep him clean. I chose to let the pig go so it could choose to stay with me.”
The farmer is like God, and the mud hole is like our life here on Earth. God loves us and wants to give us a better life. He is willing to take care of us as his children. He wants to take us out of the mud holes we get into, clean us up and offer us eternal life.
God has sent his son to get us out of our mud hole. We now have an opportunity to stay with God — but like the farmer, one day God will not come for us.
The call is being made to all who will come, be cleansed and begin a new life.
“God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16
