Something that intrigues me is what I hear every morning as I wake up — the singing of birds.
It doesn’t matter if it is cold, hot or windy; birds find a reason to start the day with rejoicing. They could decide to give a distress call, which I have heard when an animal or snake gets near their nest or when they sense danger. They could decide to bellow out a cry of fear, which I have heard when I have picked up a bird that had been injured. They could just decide to wait until they felt they had a specific reason to sing. They choose to start out the day on a positive note.
We have a lot to learn from the birds. How many times do we wake up with a bad attitude? How many times do we wake up with a negative outlook on life? If we sing songs of joy, there has to be a specific reason; otherwise, we start out singing songs of mourning.
In the book of Psalms, David says, “I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” Even if things aren’t going the way we think they ought to be going, we can find a reason to sing. We take a lot of things for granted, like food to eat, clean water to drink, clothes to wear and a roof over our head. If a person has become a follower of Christ, then he or she has a lot to sing about — peace, forgiveness, and eternal life.
God has given us a mind to be able to choose. So tomorrow, make up your mind to start the day singing songs of joy.
God gives us all reasons to sing
