Midway congregation readies for homecoming
In the pulpit
Rel EA Pulpit Vernon
The Rev. Sam and Celeste Vernon
It is nearly fall and members of the Midway United Methodist Church are excited. They are preparing for their homecoming/fall revival.
The event is planned for Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
There will be a combined worship service at 10 a.m., Sept. 30 followed by a covered dish meal. Evening revival services will begin at 7, Sunday through Tuesday.
Additionally, there will be a midday message with lunch at noon on Monday and Tuesday.
The guest revivalist for the week is the Rev. Sam Vernon, pastor of Lake Park United Methodist Church in the Valdosta area. No novice to the ministry, Vernon served as associate pastor of Pittman Park United Methodist Church in Statesboro, and Vineville United Methodist Church in Macon. He has served as pastor of the Bass United Methodist Church in Macon and First United Methodist Church in Hazlehurst.
In addition to his pastoral duties, Vernon conducted youth retreat ministry throughout the Southeast from 1990-2001. He also served as the campus minister at Valdosta State University from 2002-2006.

About the pastor
The pastor is a native of Atlanta, and is a 1984 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in business. Additionally, he graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1989 with a Master of Divinity degree.
Vernon and his wife, Celeste, are the parents of two sons, Rhett and Mitchell. The Rev. Vernon loves people and has a passion for winning people to Christ.
In addition to the dynamic preaching of Pastor Vernon, Harry Rogers of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Fleming will serve as song leader. Rogers is a powerful, gifted singer and witness for the Lord.
Pastor Doug Walker and the members of Midway United Methodist Church family invite the public to join them for a time of “great preaching, great music and great fellowship.”
The homecoming/fall revival Scripture is: “Revive us, and we will on your Name.” (Psalm 80:18).
The Midway United Methodist Church is at 215 Martin Road in Midway.
