The Savannah mission started out as a small assignment for individuals to come together to pray, but it has blossomed into much more.
“The Savannah mission was birthed out of obedience and a great need to pray for the body of Christ. God’s people have strayed away and it was time to return to Him. God knew the answers to the where, how, when and who would be a part of this great spiritual movement. God instructed me to begin a prayer mission in the Savannah, Ga., area,” Pastor Gail Ross said.
The mission’s installation and consecration services were Dec. 11, 2011, and the ministry was renamed the Savannah Prayer and Deliverance Ministry. Church services are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and at 4 p.m. every second and fourth Sunday. The church is at Progressive Center, 5321 Ogeechee Road, Savannah.
“The mission started the first part of last year, and we met at the Country Inn and Suites in Savannah. We began with 13-16 women and met on Wednesday nights at 7:30 p.m,” Ross said. “God always has a plan. Unless we humble ourselves, seek him and stay in His presence, we will not know His voice. After much prayer and fasting, we were blessed with a go forth from our chief apostle, Walter Ross.”
Gail Ross and her husband, Walter Ross, have been in the ministry for 41 years. Although they’re McIntosh County natives, the Rosses have lived in Hinesville for many years.
Before becoming pastor of the Savannah Prayer and Deliverance Ministry, Ross served as co-pastor of Ross Ministries Inc. with her husband. She has served as a choir member, church secretary and Sunday school teacher and superintendent. She also serves as a conference and seminar facilitator/planner for events such as the Men and Women Fellowship Conference, Wise Women Crying for the City, PACE (Preachers Anointed to encourage Christians Everywhere), Men Leading the Charge, When the First Lady Speaks and the Call Conference.
“God has been blessing in a mighty way. As long as I stay committed to the work of the Lord, spiritual growth will continue for both me and the ministry that God and Apostle Ross have entrusted me with,” Ross said.
She and the members of her Savannah church pray for other Walter Ross Ministries churches in Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Haiti. Ross credits her husband; her father, 98-year-old Pastor Willie West; and her late mother, Frances West, for significantly impacting her ministry.
“My father always told us that it didn’t matter where you go to church, as long as God is involved. He is a man of his word and attends the Savannah Prayer and Deliverance Ministry. My mother taught us that if you want to know a person, be quiet and listen, and when you speak, have something to say.
“My husband taught me to be committed to the work of the Lord. We have been married for 42 years. He said we must be a word church, not just speaking the word, but living the word,” she said.
Ross earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from Jacksonville Theological College and a doctorate in divinity/pastoral counselor from World Christian Ministry. She currently is pursuing a master’s degree in theology at Jacksonville Theological College. She was employed at Memorial Medical Health Center University in Savannah as a patient financial counselor and is certified by the Liberty County Board of Education as a substitute teacher. Ross also serves as a volunteer.
“I love being a servant. God has called us to be servants. If you are willing to serve in any capacity and do it for God’s glory, He can use you. I am just a vessel,” she said.
Members of Ross Ministries Inc. are preparing for their annual Call Conference, which will be April 11-13. On April 11-12, the conference will be held at the Savannah Prayer and Deliverance Ministry and at Trinity Outreach Ministry on April 13 in Midway.
