Parents are interested in seeing that their children are well-prepared to go out into the world.
Millions of dollars are spent each year for education so that young people can have the best education possible.
This is the way it ought to be, for children of today will be leaders of tomorrow.
Yet, while getting a good education is important, it must not be forgotten that children need spiritual training. God needs to be a vital part of parents’ lives as well as the lives of their children.
In the world today, this sometimes can be difficult because children are taught not to believe in God, and to think that such thoughts are foolish. This fact is why parents themselves should study God’s word and come to know him as Creator of all, and Jesus as Savior of all.
God told the Israelite people that they were to teach their children about all the things he had done for them. "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates" (Deuteronomy 6:4-9).
God wants young people to know about all he has done for man.
Some parents get so busy worrying about, providing for and preparing children for life, they forget to do what God has asked.
The result of this can be seen in society today. Respect for others, respect for life of all, and the desire to live righteously is foreign to many.
Some do not believe in God; others believe there is a God, but fail to follow his way. This way of living is a detriment to society and leads to a wicked world in which all must live.
Children must be taught about God. They need to be told of his great love for all mankind, including them. They need to know about his willingness to send his only begotten Son to die for all, including them (John 3:16).
They need to know he is alive and well today.
Children should be able to see that God is important to their parents.
If they see parents not following God, not going to worship God, never putting God first in their lives, not showing respect and love to their fellow man, then the children will most likely not follow God.
Children are so precious. All should seek to follow God and show the next generation, there is a God who loves all men.
