Thoughts of uncertainty

I was driving to the office the other day when out of the corner of my eye I saw a squirrel come out of the grass and dart right in front of my car. There was no time to brake and sad to say, the only nuts that that squirrel is eating is in squirrel heaven if there is such a place.
As I thought about that squirrel and it's decision to cross the road, I wondered what was going on in that squirrel's brain. I don't think that that squirrel awakened from it's night time sleep and said to himself,"I think I will run in front of a car today and get smashed". I rather think that this squirrel was saying,"I think I'll go out and eat a breakfast of nuts and berries and then I'll get out of the heat and rest in one of my many nests in the trees, then I'll go out and chase my squirrel friends and then I'll eat some more then go in my hole in the tree for the night".
Just as the squirrel lives a life of uncertainty, so do each one of us. If a person gets killed in a car accident they don't get up in the morning and say, 'I think I'll get in my car and leave the road and hit a tree".
Since we live such lives of uncertainty then we need to make sure, spiritually speaking, that we are always ready to leave this world. In other words we need to know with certainty where we will end up if our earthly life would come to an end. And the good news is that we can know. The Bible says that if we choose to be a follower of Jesus Christ we can have the assurance of heaven when we die.
So the big question for you today is, Have you made that important decision?
