“What if” — these words carry a little bit of uncertainty; they are conditional in nature.
There are things that are going to happen until the world ends, like the sun rising and setting each day, or having to pay taxes. There is another certainty that I will allude to today, and that is that we will all experience death. But on a positive note, we who have decided to follow Jesus will inherit eternal life.
What if you were told that you had only a short time to live — what would you do? In Scripture, this happened to King Hezekiah in 2 Kings 20, where verse 1 reads, “Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.” Like in Hezekiah’s story, miracles happen and sometimes God chooses to heal after the bad news is received, but in reality many faith-filled people die as according to the prognosis.
If a Christ follower passes, the good news is that we still win.
What if you were told you had a week or month or just a few months to live? The first thing a person would need to do is to make sure your spiritual house is in order; in other words, if Jesus is not your lord and savior, he needs to be. The great news is that no matter whom you are or what you have done, God will forgive and accept you. Even if you are a believer, you would want to tell and show how much you love your family. You also would have a sense of urgency to share the good news of Christ with as many people as possible. Then you would probably want to right any wrongs done by your words or actions.
I just thought of something — why wait until you get this kind of news? Why not make the right decisions of life today? After all, we don’t always have the knowledge of knowing when our time will come.
