In a few weeks, they will once again converge on St. Simons Island for a time of refreshing, renewal and relaxation.
The annual retreat of the Women of Destiny of Pleasant Grove African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church of Hinesville is almost here. The retreat is June 20-22 and, once again, the scenic D. Abbott Turner Lodge at Epworth by the Sea on the banks of the historic Frederica River on St. Simons Island has been selected as the site.
“This retreat will be a time to nurture and be directed in those gifts God has given us and the callings He desires us to walk in,” said the Rev. Debbie Morse, retreat coordinator and host. “We encourage ladies (16 and older) to come and allow God to have one-on-one time to mold us so that we return back home more equipped, so that we return home no longer wandering around and wondering what and how we are to do what He has called us to.”
This year’s retreat theme, “The Clarion Call: For the Perfecting of the Saints,” is taken from Ephesians 4:11-16: “Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.  Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of His body, the church.  He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”
The retreat will open at 7 p.m. June 20 with intercessory prayer by the Rev. Vonnermetread Jackson of Pleasant Grove AME Church, followed by a workshop on equipping the saints by Pastor Marsha Buford of House of Favor Full Gospel Ministries of Savannah.
June 21’s sessions begin at 9 a.m. with intercessory prayer, followed by a workshop, “From Milk to Meat,” conducted by Morse. Another workshop, “The Perfecting Process: Your Walk, Your Calling, Your Gift,” will be held that afternoon and will be presented by Apostle Dr. Paulette Jones Olasoji of Abundant Life Ministries in Savannah.
At 7 p.m., Dr. Diane Curry of Mount Zion Outreach Ministries in Glennville will be the featured speaker.
She also will close out the retreat June 22 after prayer with an open forum/closing session at 10 a.m.
“We are thanking God in advance for what He has in store for us,” Morse said.
