Terry Liles, coordinator with Helen’s Haven, spoke to Goldenheirs club members during the group’s August meeting.
Helen’s Haven is a children’s advocacy center in Liberty County, but it serves five counties. Staffers at the center help children deal with post-traumatic stress in a safe and non-threatening environment while providing support and encouraging healing. Liles credited many volunteers with helping to make Helen’s Haven a better place for clients.
Helen’s Haven operates under the umbrella of the Mary Lou Fraser Foundation for Families. The center is named after Helen Stanford, a child advocate and community leader for more than 50 years.
Goldenheirs is a senior group that meets at noon on the first Tuesday of each month in the social hall at Hinesville’s First Baptist Church for a covered-dish lunch and a program. All seniors are invited to attend.
At the group’s Sept. 7 meeting, a member of the Hinesville Police Department will speak about self defense for seniors citizens.
