Liberty County is celebrating National County Government Month this month to showcase county services and the ways in which the county prepares for and responds to potential natural disasters, emergencies and other situations the community may face.
The theme for this year’s celebration of NCGM is “Ready and Resilient
Counties: Prepare. Respond. Thrive.”
County Government Month activities will focus on the importance of disaster preparedness.
Liberty County Emergency Management Agency Director Mike Hodges said, “Planning and preparing for possible community emergencies and disasters that our community may face is a critical county service. Having a solid community awareness and disaster plan in place is essential.”
Featured NCGM events include open houses at several county facilities. Commissioners also will visit local schools to provide information about county services. There will be NCGM booths at the downtown Hinesville Farmers Market on Thursday and at the Earth Day celebration April 22 at the YMCA soccer fields. In addition, there will be various county displays at Public Safety Day on April 23.
“Liberty County is proud of the programs and services provided to the public,” Liberty County Commission Chairman Donald Lovette said. “I encourage all county residents to take advantage of National County Government Month outreach events to learn how the county serves you and your loved ones.”
“Through the years, the county has taken a very progressive stance toward helping to ensure that we are prepared to assist our residents with any need that may arise. Many of our improvements have been funded with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax proceeds. This is a tremendous opportunity for everyone to view some of these improvements and to learn more about how we operate and what we have to offer.”
Since 1991, the National Association of Counties has encouraged counties across the country to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of counties.
