The Liberty County Health Department will continue to offer flu shots through May.
The vaccine available this year is not targeted exactly at the strain of influenza now circulating in our area, according to Coastal Health District Public Relations Specialist Linda Ratcliffe.
However, she said getting a flu shot will usually lesson the severity of flu symptoms even if the contracted flu is another mutated form than what is used in the vaccine. And it takes two weeks for the human body to build immunity from any flu vaccine.
If you want to get vaccinated, the department prefers you set an appointment. Do so by calling 876-2173, ext. 203 or 204.
