The Liberty County Health Department will hold a drive-through flu vaccination clinic from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 27, at James A. Brown Park in Hinesville.
The flu vaccine will be available for $25. High-dose flu shots for people 65 and older is $40.
Cash, Medicaid and Medicare will be accepted. No appointment is necessary.
To download the flu vaccine consent form before arriving at the clinic, go to www.gachd.org/liberty and click on "Flu Information" under Liberty County Health Department Information in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
Neither the flu shot nor the nasal spray can cause the flu. The shot is approved for use in people 6 months and older, including healthy people, people with chronic medical conditions and pregnant women.
The nasal spray is approved for use in healthy people 2-49 years old who are not pregnant. The 2011-12 flu vaccine will protect against three strains of influenza virus.
"We want to make it as convenient as possible for the residents of Liberty County to get vaccinated against the flu, and holding a drive-through clinic is the best way to do that," health department nurse manager Annie Washington said. "All you have to do is roll down your window and roll up your sleeve. It’s as simple as that."
The flu virus easily is spread through coughs and sneezes and by touching something with the virus on it and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
That’s why good health habits also are important, including staying home when you’re sick, avoiding close contact with people who are sick, coughing or sneezing into your elbow and not your hand, washing your hands often with soap and water and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
