ATLANTA — Kroger’s Georgia stores and the American Heart Association are teaming up to help fight heart disease — the No. 1 cause of death of both men and women in the state, and the leading cause of death in the United States — during American Heart Month. The initiative, which runs from Feb. 1-14, invites customers at all Georgia Kroger locations to purchase a red paper heart for $1 at checkout to help raise $200,000 to benefit the AHA and its mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Richmond Hill’s Kroger at 53 Exchange St. is participating in this campaign.“More than 2,100 Americans die from cardiovascular diseases each day — or about one death every 40 seconds,” said Glynn Jenkins, the public relations director for Kroger’s Atlanta Division.
