Aware that many people dread the pain, stress and overall discomfort commonly associated with dental work and oral surgery, Dr. Roger Myers with Southern Georgia Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery said he strives to create a pleasant, anxiety-free environment for patients in his new Hinesville office.
Myers, a Georgia native with degrees in oral and maxillofacial surgery and anesthesiology, has been practicing in the area for more than four years and also has a second office in Statesboro.
“Our goal is to provide the best care possible to our patients,” Myers said.
He specializes in IV sedation/general anesthesia dentistry, which gives patients the option to “go to sleep” for procedures, increasing their comfort level.
“With IV sedation, patients don’t even realize they are having anything done,” Myers said. For patients with high levels of anxiety and those undergoing complex or lengthy procedures, this course of treatment is especially appealing.
“Any oral surgery procedure can be done under IV sedation, making oral surgery easier for all patients but especially for children or adults with special needs and the elderly,” Myers said.
Southern Georgia Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is at 604 W. Oglethorpe Highway across from GeoVista Credit Union. The large facility allows Myers to accommodate plenty of patients.
Myers said he can diagnose and treat facial pain, injuries or disorders. He offers a variety of surgical procedures, including general extractions, dental and jaw implants, wisdom-teeth extractions, impacted canines and others.  He performs X-rays and CT scans and hopes to soon add laser technology to offer patients skin resurfacing and facial-hair removal.
Myers and his staff are trained to work well with children. They also make accommodations in advance for any patient with special needs or elderly patients in nursing homes or assisted-living facilities. The practice takes many referrals from local dentists, including patients who have physical disabilities.
Myers is accepting new patients by referral or walk-in.  The practice accepts most major dental plans including Medicaid and will file claims on a patients’ behalf. His website, www.southerngeorgiaoms.com, contains information about Myers’ practice, including patient information, available services, videos and even a virtual office tour of his new facility. Call the office at 912-408-7100 for more information.
