By the numbers
• 10: percentage of Stewart/Hunter soldier population that is female.
• 95: percentage of sex-crime victims, Army-wide, who are female soldiers.
• 6.6: divorce rate, expressed as a percentage, among female soldiers. The divorce rate among male soldiers is 1.6 percent.
• 2,500: Number of female Stewart-Hunter soldiers the F2F program will support initially.
Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield have a unique population, and with that comes a great opportunity to reach out. Female soldiers stationed at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield make up approximately 10 percent of the installation’s total force. They are spread out amongst more than 150 small, unit-level organizations, which makes for a group that sometimes is hard to connect.
That is where the Female to Female Mentorship program, known as F2F, comes into play. F2F is an informal mentorship program where all the females within a brigade, comprised of 30-50 small units, come together monthly to interact, network and learn about life skills and associated resources on and off the installation.
“This program has a lot of potential, but the one area we are still lacking in is off-post business involvement,” said Col. Dianne Pannes, the commander of the dental services for Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. “We want to be able to expose our female soldiers to programs in the surrounding communities. There are so many great resources that we want our females to know about and take advantage of.”
As the program gets under way, there will be a kickoff event at the beginning of January that involves all 2,800 female soldiers on the installation.
The event will include keynote speakers, booths from on- and off-post organizations and businesses and an opportunity for female soldiers to interact and mingle.
“If, at the end of the day, we have just one female mentor support system develop, then I will call this program a success,” Pannes said.
Organizations and businesses interested in participating in the kickoff event or monthly events should call Melissa Reams at 912-435-9959 or Sarah Lopez at 912-435-0875.
