The Democratic Party of Georgia recently opened its regional headquarters in Savannah.
Many area party members attended, including Liberty County Democratic Party Chairman and keynote speaker Charles Frasier; state Rep. Al Williams of Midway; Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson; state Sen. Lester Jackson of Savannah; and U.S. Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C.
“The idea is, we’ve got to get back to our roots,” said Mike Berlon, the state’s party chairman. “We have not really been actively involved in areas outside of Atlanta in a long time, and I think this is the first step to reclaim Georgia for the Democrats.”
