Brenda Metoyer of Liberty County won first place on May 22 in the individual competition of the Black Expo Gospel Competition in Columbia, S.C.
The show was hosted by David Mann from “Meet the Browns” and his wife, gospel recording artist, Tamela Mann, who plays “Cora,” Mr. Browns’ daughter.
The competition drew talent from across the Southeast who competed in three categories: individual, group and choir.
Metoyer sang a rendition of “He’s Done Enough” by Beverly Crawford and won $1,000.
“Its amazing what God can do when you are obedient, but thats another story,” she said.
She has been invited to enter the next competition in October, when the Black Expo will be in Jacksonville.
Metoyer and her band opened the 2009 Hinesville Blues and BBQ last September. She and her band, A Touch of Class, have been named 2010 Pick for Best Band in South Carolina in Weddings, by the “The Knot,” whose website is www.theknot.com.
Metoyer also produces and hosts a radio show on Christian station WTLD 90.5 FM in Jesup. The show airs on Thursdays at 7:30 pm.
