American Rosie the Riveter Association is trying to locate women who worked on the home front during World War II.
Thousands of women worked to support the war effort as riveters, welders, electricians, inspectors in plants, sewers of clothing and parachutes for the military and many other positions. American Rosie the Riveter wants to acknowledge these women with certificates and place their stories in the organization’s archives.
The association is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to recognize and preserve the history and legacy of working women during World War II. The organization was founded in 1998 by Dr. Frances Carter of Birmingham, Alabama, and now has more than 5,000 members nationwide. Current elected officials, who serve on a volunteer basis, are from Georgia, Oregon, Maryland and Alabama.
