Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does  not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

All you guys who get on your big boys’ toys, your motorcycles, and go riding and collecting for the community, let me tell you what: You need to come to the nursing home, help feed the hungry and know what the community is really about. Come over and change diapers; come over and give baths.

Don’t ever take your mother for granted. She’s the only mother you’ll ever have. There’s never going to be a replacement. Just love her and don’t use her for money or anything else.

Well, once again, it’s time for the city council and people to go to St. Simons for another glorious trip at the taxpayers’ expense, showing once again the total fiscal irresponsibility that we have.

People, get your head out from the sand. Have your city council and county commission put a moratorium on all spending in the county and city unless it’s absolutely necessary for the functions of those entities.

HOW TO PACIFY AN IRATE CALLER

These opinions are not the Courier’s. Callers are not required to identify themselves, so we can verify neither sources nor motives. You may also anonymously submit a comment online at http://coastalcourier.com/forms/soundoff.

“I am so sick of hearing and reading about Chick-fil-A opening on Sunday. This family is a Christian family and no Chick-fil-A has ever been open on Sunday. There are many other restaurants open on Sundays.”

“Thank you, former county Commissioner John McIver and city Councilman Chris Stacy for looking out for the people of Riceboro. There are many residents there who have died of cancer recently and no one else is caring for the people.”

“I glad we got a new chief, Kirkendall. I don’t know what he’s done, but I’m going to give him a chance.”

“Why won’t the sheriff’s department do anything about the four-wheelers screaming up and down the roads in Woodland Lakes and Lake George? And the BOA in Lake George won’t do anything either.”

“My God, American people, we are patriots by nature. How in the world could we have allowed so many Russians to be connected to a campaign for president? That’s not patriotic.”

“The worst neighbor in Rye Patch lets his dog run free and poop on others’ property. He’s too cheap to buy trash bags so his trash blows onto others’ property. And he’s just an annoying jerk.”

“Thank you, Niki Seale for writing a sensible letter to the editor in the April 4. I full support your views.”

“Sadly, being white and raised in Liberty County, I never really understood the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. But today, marking the 50th anniversary of his assassination, I realize that has changed over the last year and a half. I enjoyed all the articles in the Coastal Courier. And I think his significance is ever more important than ever.”
