Chef challenge for McDonald House

SAVANNAH — The Savannah Ronald McDonald House will host the Chef of the House Challenge on Aug. 23-29. It will be an “Iron Chef”-inspired fundraiser with a twist — competitors will bring their own challengers. The event, which benefits the Savannah Ronald McDonald House, will feature amateurs and culinary masters with a passion for cooking, grilling and giving back to the community.
Once a chef registers and chooses a challenger, he or she will plan a meal for 30 people. The menu must include a main dish, side dish or appetizer and a dessert. The competitors will cook for families who are staying at the Savannah Ronald McDonald House and a panel of judges. When participants arrive for the competition, they will be given a secret ingredient, donated by NLAWS Produce, to be incorporated into one of the recipes.
Cooks will be judged on the overall meal and successful incorporation of the secret ingredient. The winning team will receive a $25 gift certificate to Kitchenware Outfitters for each member of the team.
Before the competition, participating cooks will set up online websites so supporters can make donations. Anyone who makes at least a $65 donation will receive a $25 gift certificate to Kitchenware Outfitters. All donations go to the Ronald McDonald House.
Last year’s Chef of the House Challenge raised more than $26,000. So far this year, participants have raised more than $9,000 and counting.
Event sponsors include HostSouth, McDonald’s, Sweet Life, NLAWS Produce, Kitchenware Outfitters, Advanced AV Rentals and Fast Signs.
