Post pools changing to school hours

Schedules for the Fort Stewart and Hunter outdoor pools have been announced:
• Bryan Village Pool will close for the season on Aug. 3. Call 767-2701 for more information.
• Beginning Aug. 3, Corkan Pool will be open weekends only until Labor Day, when it will close for the season. Hours will be 11:30-8:30 p.m. Call 767-8575 for information.
• Beginning Aug. 21, Hunter Army Airfield outdoor pool will be open from 11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. on weekends only until Labor Day, when it will close for the season. Call 912-315-5786 for more information.
In each case, the changes will take effect at the close of the business day.

Back-to-School Fair at Hunter
A Back-to-School Fair, designed to help military families prepare their children for the school year, will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter.
The free fair is to inform parents and students - especially those new to Hunter - about family- and youth-related services available on Hunter, in Savannah and in surrounding communities. It is sponsored by Child, Youth and School Services. For more information, call 912-315-6586.

Bowling for a world record at Stewart Lanes
Games bowled at Stewart Lanes on Aug. 6 will be tallied with games across the nation as part of a National Bowling Week effort to set a world record for the most games bowled in a single day.
Stewart Lanes will be open from 11 a.m. that Saturday until 9 p.m. Sunday 7 for its "Marathon Bowling" Bowl a Million event. There will be surprise games and prizes as part of the fun.
The cost is $1.75 a game and $1.75 for shoe rental. Also, bowlers can go online to gobowling.com to get a coupon for one free game.

Youth Sponsorship dolphin watching trip
Get ready for another school year by meeting new friends and learning about dolphins. Join CYSS on a dolphin watching trip on Aug. 6. Registration closes Aug. 4.
The trip is open for CYSS-registered youth in grades 4-12. Register at either the Fort Stewart or Hunter Parent Central Services offices. Participants will leave Stewart at 9:30 a.m. and Hunter at 10:30 a.m.
There is no charge, but there is a $5 cancellation fee for no-shows and any cancellations after Aug. 4.

Hunter GC Golf Scramble
A Hunter Garrison Commander's 4-person Golf Scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Aug. 12 at Hunter Golf Club. The tourney will accept the first 25 four-person teams. Register your team by Aug. 10.
The cost is $35 for Taylors Creek and Hunter Golf Club Members, active duty, retirees and Army civilians, $45 for civilian guests.

Jaguars season tickets on sale
2011 Jacksonville Jaguars season tickets are on sale at both Fort Stewart and Hunter Leisure Travel Services offices.
This year, a limited supply of end zone tickets are available for $60 per person. Regular tickets are also available for $43 per person.

CYSS Youth Sports registration
Registration for tackle football/cheerleading and fall soccer will close Aug 15 or when all slots are filled.
Registration is open to CYSS members living on and off-post. Football is open to ages 7-12 (as of Aug. 1), cheerleading is open to ages 6-13 (Dec 31) and soccer is open to ages 4-13 (Aug 1).

Operation Rising Star contestant sign-up
Singers from Stewart and Hunter can sign up to compete in Operation Rising Star, the Army's version of "American Idol."
The free competition is sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and is open to active duty, National Guard or Reserve from any branch of service and family members who are at least 18. Sign-up deadline is Aug. 26.
The local Operation Rising Star opens its 2011 competition at Rocky's Zone on Aug. 30. Subsequent rounds will be on Sept. 6 and 13, with the finals scheduled for Sept. 20.
The first-place winner will get $500 and advance to the 2011 finals. Second place will get $250 and third place $100. The Army-wide winner will win an all expense paid, 3-day professional recording studio experience in Los Angeles.
The Spirit Award - $300 toward the winning unit or family readiness group fund - will be go to the best supportive unit or FRG. Any unit or FRG may compete regardless of contestant participation. Support will be determined each night by applause. A cumulative score from each night will determine the winner.

Pass & Permit Wildlife Photo Contest
Registration is under way for a Wildlife Photo Contest to be Nov. 16 at the Fort Stewart Pass & Permit Office. Registration will close Nov. 3.
The theme is wildlife photography, not photos of pets. Photo dimensions are four by six inches or larger and there is no limit to the quantities entered.
The contest is open to amateur photographers and entry fees are $5 (ages 2-15) per photo and $10 (16 and older) per photo.
