“The Good Wife” on CBS has become somewhat of a rock star in my regular television lineup. It’s one of the few shows I’ll stay up until 11 p.m. to watch; it starts at 10.
The show stars “ER’s” Juliana Margulies as Alicia Florrick, a woman whose life seems yanked from the headlines when her state attorney husband, portrayed by Chris Noth, is jailed for political corruption, including ties to a prostitute.
Amidst the negative media coverage, Alicia manages to keep a grip on her marriage, keep her children stable and re-enter the work force as a junior litigator at a prestigious law firm run by actress Christine Baranski and her partner, played by Josh Charles. His character, by the way, is a longtime friend of Alicia’s who more than suggests he’d like to become more.
The best parts of the show, now in its second season, are the cases and actress Archie Panjabi, who plays the law firm’s investigator, Kalinda. Razor-sharp writing makes each trial an adventure you want to ride out until the end. There’s often an unexpected twist in each case, which is, more often than not, discovered by Kalinda.
Kalinda is without a doubt the most powerful woman on television today. There is no clue she can’t find and until this season there was no man who could outdo her. She’s the type that could probably outsmart even Showtime’s Dexter or Fox’s Dr. House.
This season, they added a competing investigator to “The Good Wife’s” cast. The new guy has Kalinda reeling for dominance. Having said that, this fan worries the new wrinkle could spin out of control for the writers. Sure, Kalinda doesn’t need to always come out as Super Woman, but too much negativity may sour audiences who have contributed to the series winning so many awards, including the Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy in a Drama Series for Archie Panjabi.
I can’t believe I even need to say this. Isn’t it obvious? I’m a fan!
