Three in running to be Miss Midway

The mayor’s volunteer committee for the city of Midway will crown Miss Midway at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Midway Civic Center.
Proceeds from the pageant will benefit the American Institute for Cancer Research. Three Midway Middle School girls are vying for the title. The contestants are:

Octavia Bacon
Bacon, who is in seventh grade, is the daughter of Debra Bacon and the late Anthony Bacon. Her hobbies are reading, babysitting, cheerleading, playing basketball and helping with church bulletins. She attends church at Thebes African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Brittney Byrd
Byrd, who is in seventh grade, is the daughter of Joseph Byrd and the late Jennifer Ponder. Her hobbies are reading, singing, photography, swimming, fishing, roller skating and dancing.  She attends Midway First Baptist Church.

LaKretia Clancy
Clancy, who is in eighth grade, is the daughter of Levern Clancy Jr. and Verdene Clancy.
Her hobbies are eating, cheering, participating in the school step team, playing baseball and shopping. She attends Midway First Presbyterian Church.

The program, which is free to the public, will feature musical performances from Midway Middle School, Midway Congregational Church and Cheryl Brett Dance Studio. Anyone who would like to support the contestants should contact the girls’ parents or call Midway Mayor Clemontine Washington at 332-4087.
