Atlantic Area CASA (court-appointed special advocates) will host new volunteer training from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at the Liberty County Health Department, 1113 E. Oglethorpe Highway, Hinesville.
Atlantic Area CASA is an affiliate of Georgia CASA, a nonprofit organization with 47 community-based programs that train and supervise volunteers to advocate for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect and are involved in juvenile court proceedings.
Last year, more than 2,100 CASA volunteers in Georgia served more than 8,700 children. Locally, 53 CASA volunteers serve 166 children in Liberty, Long, Bryan, McIntosh, Tattnall and Evans counties.
Volunteers will need to fill out an application, submit to a background check, complete an interview and complete 30-hour training with court observation.
