When it comes to choosing a career, there are plenty of things to consider. Location, pay and work-life balance are often thought to be the prime priorities in the modern job market.

But one factor that often gets overlooked is safety.

That's right, as any firefighter could surely tell you, there are some jobs that are simply riskier than others.

So which jobs take the cake when it comes to danger? According to a new analysis by CareerCast, there are 10 distinct professions that require an exceptional degree of caution.

To rank the jobs, CareerCast analyzed the most recent data from The Bureau of Labor statistics which indicated which professions had the highest frequency of absences due to injury.

Of course, there is also the flip side. Some jobs are unusually safe. CareerCast identified those as well.

Here, we've compiled both the most and least dangerous professions according to CareeCast, including their projections on salary growth for each respective career.

We start the list with the 10 safest jobs, with number 11 beginning a ranking of the 10 most dangerous.

It's worth noting that this list differs from another analysis by The Washington Post published in January.
