Five for Families: Pixar is a pretty sure bet

Here are five movies from various platforms families may want to consider, as recommended by Ok.com. Because not all are appropriate for younger children, age recommendations are included.

The Pixar Animation Studios' arm of The Walt Disney Co. has been making family friendly movies since the debut of "Toy Story" in 1995. The studio has now produced a total of 15 films over the course of 20 years, according to pixar.com, with its next film, "The Good Dinosaur," slated to be released in November.

Here are five Pixar films for families to consider.

In theaters: 'Inside Out'

Disney-Pixars latest film, Inside Out, gives viewers a glimpse into the emotions of a young girl named Riley. Parent Previews says the essence of the story is to appreciate all of our emotions and that life is full of a mixture of sentiments. The website adds that while the message will likely go over the heads of little ones who will be more entertained by the colorful animation and slapstick antics, the film can spark conversation about the importance of giving voice to all of our feelings for older children. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 6 and older.

iTunes: 'A Bug's Life'

A creative ant comes up with an idea to save his colony from the demanding rule of the grasshoppers. Common Sense Media states that older kids will enjoy the clever humor and the unique view of the insect world but cautions that very young children may be frightened by the suspense. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 4 and older.

Amazon Instant: 'Toy Story'

A young boys toys come to life when hes not there, and they prepare to survive a move to a new home, all while a new favorite toy disrupts their way of life. The Dove Foundation wrote the film includes values of loyalty and friendship, as well as learning to trust someone. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 4 and older.

iTunes: 'Finding Nemo'

A cautious clown fish goes on the journey of a lifetime to find his adventurous son. PluggedIn indicates children may be inspired by Nemos bravery and courage and Dorys positive attitude. The website warns, however, that the films premise of a child being lost may be frightening to young viewers. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 3 and older.

Amazon Instant: 'Up'

A 78-year-old man embarks on his lifelong dream of visiting South America, unknowingly bringing a young boy named Russell along for the ride. Common Sense Media notes the films PG rating for a few potentially frightening scenes, but states that violence is mild. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 4 and older.
