A crew of 65 volunteers descended Saturday upon Fort McAllister Historic State Park to help take care of a little spring cleaning.
Park manager Daniel Brown said the weather couldn’t have been better and the volunteers did a great job cleaning up the park.
“They did a tremendous amount of work raking up leaves from the fort and cleaning up wood,” he said.
The event is sponsored by the Civil War Preservation Trust, which supplied T-shirts and hot dogs for the volunteers. Park Day is a nationwide effort underwritten with a grant from History, formerly known as The History Channel, and has been endorsed by Take Pride in America, a division of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
