Walthourville residents and visitors gathered Saturday at the municipality’s city hall to officially light the town Christmas tree and enjoy some holiday-themed entertainment and refreshments.Fighting a cool evening chill, attendees bundled in coats, sweaters and mittens celebrated the joyous season by singing Christmas songs as the decorated evergreen was illuminated. United Ministerial Alliance President Richard Hayes — who, as pastor of New Day Community Church, worked ahead of the event to bring the community together — offered words of inspiration. Agape Christian Fellowship Church Pastor Daisy Edwards stressed the importance of unity during the holiday season, and the Godly Grannies spread a special kind of Christmas joy by performing a skit.Hot chocolate was served as attendees of all ages awaited the magical moment.
