Walthourville residents and visitors gathered Saturday at the municipality’s city hall to officially light the town Christmas tree and enjoy some holiday-themed entertainment and refreshments.
Fighting a cool evening chill, attendees bundled in coats, sweaters and mittens celebrated the joyous season by singing Christmas songs as the decorated evergreen was illuminated.
United Ministerial Alliance President Richard Hayes — who, as pastor of New Day Community Church, worked ahead of the event to bring the community together — offered words of inspiration. Agape Christian Fellowship Church Pastor Daisy Edwards stressed the importance of unity during the holiday season, and the Godly Grannies spread a special kind of Christmas joy by performing a skit.
Hot chocolate was served as attendees of all ages awaited the magical moment. Mayor Daisy Pray led the countdown, and the crowd clapped and exclaimed as hundreds of twinkling lights appeared against the night sky, signaling to all that Walthourville is officially in the Christmas spirit.
