On September 5, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a potential threat made toward a local school. An investigation was immediately initiated and the juvenile who made the threat was located a short time later.

The juvenile admitted to making a threat to bring a gun to school and the admission was supported by video located during the investigation.

The 13-year-old juvenile was arrested and charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts, a felony, and turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice. The juvenile was later transported to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Claxton to be held until a hearing could be scheduled in Superior Court.
Due to the age of the alleged offender, their name will not be released at this time.

Any threat to Liberty County schools will be investigated and when a suspect is identified, appropriate criminal charges will follow, school system officials said.
